To know Thornia was to love her. Her magnetic personality, her effervescence, her generosity and her smile attracted both the very young and the old. Children gravitated toward the energetic, vivacious flow of their Aunty Thornia, while the elderly and the sick confided in her and knew she was always available to offer up prayers on their behalf and also to assist them in any way she could.
She had an exceptional creative mind and could formulate the most ingenious ideas in a matter of minutes. She labelled herself a “concept designer” and those whose events she planned and executed sang her praises.
She was a servant, a helper, blessed with the ‘gift of help’. If she had the skill and know-how, she would extend herself to anyone’s cause wholeheartedly. Though no longer here, we strive to continue to help others in loving and cherished memory of her. Please meet the team behind the Foundation.
Our Mission
To provide financial and emotional assistance to those in need, primarily those who are coping with cancer, enabling them to live fulfilled lives; also, to provide the necessary resources and support for children which will empower them to become impactful members of their communities.
Our
Purpose
In 2017, Thornia A. Morrison was inspired to begin a charity that would cater to the various needs of individuals who were battling cancer and/or any other serious, life-changing illnesses. As a cancer patient herself, she observed the loneliness and lack of support that was associated with the illness – not everyone had a mom, a friend, a job, or a church family to rely on. Some needed transportation to and from treatment, doctor’s visits, etc. Some needed just the support of someone who would sit with them while they received treatment or feedback from the specialists; others needed a delivery of healthy food, a trip out of town to lift their spirit or just someone to pray with them. She realized this firsthand and was inspired to assist in any way she could.
She therefore began what we know as Project Give Back and the Survivors Gala to generate the necessary funds to meet these needs. On Friday, September 1, 2017, on a night symbolizing faith, hope and charity, Thornia decided to recognize and award seven (7) courageous and brave individuals who were engaged in the fight of their lives against cancer and were victorious through the help of Jesus. The Foundation will continue to recognize and award individuals who beat the odds that are stacked against them, in the hope that they too will help to inspire others around them.
Thornia’s heart also went out to young girls, especially those from her island home, Jamaica, who not only lacked the basic necessities they needed for a comfortable life, but positive and consistent role models. Because of this, she would use her own finances to purchase sanitary napkins, deodorant and hair products for these young girls, as well as help in financing their school fees and other supplies. She also believed that young girls should conduct themselves in a lady-like and respectable manner that would garner the respect of those with whom they interacted.
She would, therefore, lend of herself every opportunity she received to help groom them in their speech, attire, mannerisms, and in so doing, help them to develop their self-esteem and create goals for a better future.
On March 12, 2021 Thornia departed this life, but her dream, her passion, her VISION to help the less fortunate lives on. With this in mind, we (friends of Thornia) have decided to carry on her charity, renaming it the Thornia A. Morrison Faith, Hope, Charity Foundation.
